Change
How can we embrace the inevitability of change?
I’ve been thinking about change not only in my personal life, but also in my creative practice and the direction Apsara Creative continues to take.
When change occurs, we typically have a hard time accepting it. Society, along with our upbringings, gives us a set of conditions that we “should” abide by. If we abide by these conditions, we will “fit in” or be more “successful.” In turn, our routines, habits, and preferences are created. We know what’s expected of us, and we do what we need to do to stay in our bubbles. We prefer not to leave that zone of comfort. In my experience, it seems as if the natural forces of change will inevitably come for you regardless, and you won’t have a choice but to accept that it is time to transition. And where do we go next?
If you choose to reject that change and stay in your bubble, it eventually backfires. It becomes harder and harder for you to expand and grow. Staying in that bubble, you end up confining yourself to the same shape and size.
Why don’t we want to change?
Well, how are we supposed to grow then?
Deep down, we might be scared.
What if I never feel that sense of comfort and safety again?
Everyone’s fears are different, but that resistance we feel when something comes up is universal. We have all experienced it. Fear might make you feel anxious, depressed, discouraged, or confused. Courage is necessary to move through these feelings.
Part of that courage comes from building confidence in your own judgment. I think the ability to make good judgments takes study and practice. The more you can stay present and aware of how you feel, the easier it becomes to respond to situations of change or fear. Meditation is very helpful in studying the way your mind works and training yourself to practice good discernment.
I meditate every day for at least ten minutes. More recently, my goal has been 20 minutes, which is attainable but definitely challenges me. When I don’t meditate, I am more likely to get sidetracked, or I might not respond in a way that reflects how I actually feel in that given moment. During that time, I am able to connect with myself and see where my head is at. Certainly, everything might not be solved in that one sitting, but it gives me a sense of peace with the way things are. In turn, I find myself being more present.
I started my business in 2024 with a vision to continue my practice of art and the preservation of culture. What it has become is beyond what I ever thought it would be. I’ll begin to reveal, bit by bit, what I thought my future would be like and how life actually unfolded. Through these reflections, I want to share more about the changes, questions, and experiences that have shaped both me and Apsara Creative.
I allowed myself to learn how to embrace change. And I am still learning. I am an eternal student, which has allowed me to step into my strength as a teacher. You will begin to notice that my style of writing involves a lot of questions. It’s intentional because I want you all to genuinely think. The art of thinking and contemplation is the art I am striving to master.
Maybe embracing change does not mean having all the answers. Maybe it means becoming more comfortable with the questions, trusting yourself enough to move forward, and allowing yourself to become something you could not have imagined before.
